SCIAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors Announced

The 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Soccer teams were announced Wednesday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Senior defender Adam Singer of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) was voted the 2019 SCIAC Athlete of the Year and a First Team All-SCIAC honoree. Singer, who was also voted an all-conference first-team selection a year ago, helped CMS post seven shutouts during league action in 2019 and added a pair of goals. Singer scored an insurance goal against Cal Lutheran on September 18, and netted what proved to be the game-winner in a September 21st tilt against Occidental that saw the Stags win 3-1. The anchor of the CMS backline, Singer helped the Stags to a 9-1-2 record in league action and the top seed in the upcoming SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Earning SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors was Caltech's Sam Klauer. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Klauer played in 11 of 12 games in conference action and netted two goals. The midfielder found the back of the net in the Beavers' 3-1 loss to Cal Lutheran on Sept. 21, and netted again on Oct. 26 in a 2-2 double-overtime draw with Pomona-Pitzer.

The Award of Distinction recognizes a senior male SCIAC soccer athlete for exemplary achievements through their higher education experience. Specifically it recognizes students who, while competing on their teams, have been recognized by coaches, officials, institutional administrators or others as making significant contributions representing their school and serving their communities based on the following criteria: advancing sportsmanship, balancing sports and major personal academic achievements, demonstrating behavior that models efforts of inclusion within their teams and those of their opponents, contributes to a sense of civility in society or otherwise innovatively elevates the profile of what participation in the SCIAC conference and as a Division III student-athlete can offer to the betterment of community.

La Verne's Jack Kolodge was voted the 2019 SCIAC Award of Distinction winner. A four-year player for the Leopards, Kolodge donates his time at Meals on Wheels in Claremont, Calif. He and other volunteers deliver meals to the people who are incapable of making meals themselves or do not have people in their lives to make meals for them. Those incapable of making food included the elderly, physically disabled, and even people who were in accidents and/or temporarily bed-ridden. Each day consists of  different routes to deliver and Kolodge and the other volunteers take the time to have conversations with the recipients, providing a positive community outreach.

SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors went to Ralph Perez and the Bulldogs' coaching staff. Perez guided Redlands to the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament as the Bulldogs registered an 8-2-2 mark in the league to highlight a 9-4-3 overall record. Perez and his assistants previously earned SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2015.
