CMS Men's Tennis Finishes as National Runner-up

Chattanooga, Tenn - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team finished the season as the national runner-up after suffering a 5-2 defeat to top ranked Emory. Rain once again forced the match indoors at the McCallie school on Wednesday afternoon.

A day after staging an epic comeback against Middlebury in the semifinals after dropping all of the doubles, the Stags once again found themselves in a 3-0 hole as Emory swept doubles. Julian Gordy and Jake Williams dropped an 8-1 decision to the No. 3 team from Emory. The No. 2 team of Glenn Hull and Jake Berber battled at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell 8-6. At the top spot Daniel Morkovine and Nikolai Parodi came close to taking a point in doubles breaking twice but also fell 8-6.

CMS would once again need to win five of six singles to take the match and Alex Brenner gave the Stags their first point with a win at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Hull would fall at No. 2 singles to give the Eagles their fourth point of the match. Parodi would once again go the distance as No. 1 singles and come away with a signature threes set win over Aman Manji, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

With the match score 4-2 in favor of Emory the remaining three matches were all in third sets. Daniel Park was tied up at No. 5 singles 6-3, 4-6, 3-3 while Max Macey trailed 5-7, 6-2, 1-3 when Morkovine dropped a heartbreaker at No. 3 singles 7-5, 2-6, 5-7.

The Stags conclude the season 32-4 and look forward to the individual NCAA championship which begins tomorrow as Parodi, Hull and Morkovine will all be competing in singles.
