CMS Tabbed First in SCIAC Men's Tennis Preseason Poll

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) men's tennis team was unanimously selected to finish first in the 2020 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Tennis Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's member head coaches.

CMS notched eight first place votes and 64 points and was slated to finish first in the 2020 SCIAC Preseason Poll. The Stags posted a sensational 33-2 overall record in 2019 and finished a perfect 7-0 in conference play, en route to the top seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, and culminating with a tournament title. After receiving the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship and a first round bye, CMS downed Texas-Dallas (5-0), Trinity (Texas) (5-0), Bowdoin (5-2), and Chicago (5-1), before falling to Emory, 5-3 in the NCAA Division III Championship match.

After earning the second seed in the conference postseason tournament a year ago, Pomona-Pitzer was tabbed to finish second in the league in 2020. The Sagehens received 51 points in the preseason voting after posting an 11-14 overall ledger, and a 5-2 mark in SCIAC play last season. After besting Redlands, 5-2 in the semifinals of the conference tournament, Pomona-Pitzer then fell to CMS in the title match, 5-0.

Placing third and fourth in the SCIAC standings a year ago, Redlands and Caltech each earned 44 points in the preseason vote ahead of the 2020 season. Redlands, which tabbed a 13-6 overall record and a 5-2 league mark, earned the third seed in the conference tournament on tiebreakers and fell to Pomona-Pitzer in the semifinals of the conference playoffs. Caltech, meanwhile, boasted a 13-7 overall tally in 2019 and earned the fourth seed with a 4-3 record in league play. The Beavers fell to CMS in the semifinals of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Occidental (27 points) was voted to finish fifth in the standings in 2020 after posting a 7-11 (2-5 SCIAC) ledger a year ago, while California Lutheran received 23 points in the preseason vote after notching a 13-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in conference play.
